    Make sure you don’t have your Mute button, turned on.

    Try These:
    1: Go to Start>Control Panel. Once inside Control Panel, choose Sound, Speech and Audio Devices>Sound and Audio Devices>Audio, then choose your default sound playback device. Be sure to check that the volume is not muted.
    2: Right-click on My Computer on the desktop, then select “Manage”. From the window that opens, look for “Device Manager” in the left side of the pane and check if there’s any device with a red or yellow mark, red means the device is disabled and yellow means there are no drivers installed for the device. Report what you find here.
    By the way, has your computer ever played sounds?

    If you have just installed a fresh version of XP I would suggest you need to install your sound card drivers again, you may have some sort of cd’s you got with the computer that has the drivers but if not you need to find out what type of sound card you have.

    To determine what type of sound card you have you need to do the following:

    1. Click the Start Button and then click the “Programs” folder.

    2.Next, click the “Accessories” and then the “System Information” folder.

    3.Within the “System Information” window, click the “+” symbol next to “Components”.

    4.Click “Sound Device” (or “Multimedia” and then “Sound Device”) and in the right-side of the window you should be able to locate complete information about the sound card.

    Firstly visit the manufactures website to try and find the driver if this fails do the following.

    Go to google and input the following ‘*sound card name here* + driver dowload’ and hopefully you will be able to find somewhere to download the drivers for it.
